Mark Vaughan and the Llantwit Crew (Jamie Bateman, Gareth Vaughan, Nathan Phillips and Colm Garratt) have been in Bali - but a good time was not had by all! Mark's tale of woe involves lost boards, death, illness and Greg Owen (Porthcawl Superstar) so go to the Channel Coast Club page for the full details! Colm Garratt has managed to injure his leg and it looks like he'll be out of the water for a while and Greg Owen has chipped a bone in his ankle while in Indo and both have had to return from their travels early - gutted.
However, Nathan Phillips caught the right peoples eyes while in Hawaii earlier this year - he has been named in a hot 100 young surfers by the american Surf magazine and they've taken him on a boat trip back to Indo - life's hard as a pro surfer isn't it Nate Tom Lucas and Terry Spargo from Llantwit have spent some time in Lanzarote and Johnny James from Swansea has been to Sri Lanka and South Africa (the last courtesy of Red Bull). James 'Rhino' Thomas, Craig Farnsworth and Guts Griffiths have just set off on a boat trip in Indo courtesy of Carve mag along with Sam Bleakley, Alan Stokes and Danny Wall Dan Harris from Aberafan is about to be a TV superstar with an appearance on Gabe Davies new programme on Channel 4 on Saturday mornings - don't miss it.
The Annual General Meeting of the WSF was held on Sunday 7th January, 2001 at the Lifeboat Inn, Porthcawl. The following people were elected to the WSF committee:
President - Huw John
Chairman - John Purton
Treasurer - Mark Vaughan
Secretary - Lynda Keward
Sponsorship Officers - Ian Thomson and James Jones
Nathan Phillips has just won himself a trip to Hawaii - he came second in the final European Junior Pro event of the year in Portugal and has finished second overall for the season. Another feather in the cap for Llantwit Major and an excellent result for Welsh surfing. BRITISH INTERCLUBS Channel Coast won this year's British Interclubs Championships with Gower Bays in third place. Despite Channel Coast's late arrival at the contest due to the arrest of one of the team (you know who you are!)managed to win the overall event. Welsh Coast Surf Club also took part in the event.
Our thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the meeting.
